Building Lasting Change: Lessons from Foundation of Hope Uganda by Mark Edgington

Updated: Sep 2

Years ago, I was introduced to Foundation of Hope Uganda, a grassroots orphanage in the small village of Kagoma. What started as a conversation turned into something much deeper: a sense of connection and responsibility that stuck with me far beyond that first introduction.

Let me be clear — I didn’t physically build the orphanage or move to Uganda. But I did what I could by offering support, funding, and advice in order for the orphanage to be a success.

The children and staff at Foundation of Hope didn’t just need charity, they needed partnership, and the initial funds in order for them to be self sufficient. That was my goal. And with a lot of outreach, it was successful.

There are hundreds of children at Foundation of Hope who are growing, learning, and building futures that will outlive any single donation.

My hope is that these children are able to take their futures into their own hands through education, housing, and nutrition that normally wouldn’t have been available to them.
