Jack’s Wedding in Utila

I spent some time recently in Utila, Honduras for my son Jack’s wedding.

It’s a small place. Quiet, a little rough around the edges, but in a good way. The kind of place where things slow down whether you want them to or not.

The wedding itself was simple and well done. Seeing Jack step into that part of his life meant a lot to me. Watching your kid grow up, make his own decisions, and build something of his own is amazing.

My mother was there too, which made it even better. Not many moments where you get three generations in one place like that. I’ve learned not to take those for granted.

The rest of the trip was just small things.

Spending time out at Neptune’s. Walking along the dock. Someone pulled up a fish and everyone stopped to look at it. I found myself watching a hermit crab for a while. The harbor was calm most mornings.

Getting there was its own process. We ended up taking a private flight to San Pedro Sula and then flying out from there. Not something we do often, but it worked out.

Time with family, a meaningful milestone, and a handful of quiet moments in between.

These days, that’s what I try to pay attention to.
