Reflections From Peru by Mark Edgington

Updated: Oct 31, 2025

I recently returned from Peru with my wife, and the experience is one I’ll carry with me for a long time. From the bustling streets of Cusco to the quiet peace of the Andes, Peru is a country that seems to hold both history and life in every corner.

The highlight of our trip was, of course, visiting Machu Picchu. Standing among the ancient stones, surrounded by clouds and mountains, I couldn’t help but feel a sense of awe. It’s humbling to think about the generations who lived there, worked there, and left behind something that still speaks so powerfully today.

Traveling always gives me perspective. You see how people live, how they care for their families, and how communities endure. You also notice the small things, like the impact of tourism and the importance of respecting the places you visit.

On one of our hikes in Cusco, I found myself picking up bits of trash along the trail. It wasn’t much, but it reminded me that every action leaves a mark, and it’s up to us whether it’s a positive one.

The Beauty of Connection

Peru left me with more than memories of breathtaking views. It reminded me to slow down, to notice, and to care for people, places, and for the shared world we all live in. Each interaction, each moment spent in nature, felt like a gentle nudge to be more present.

Embracing the Culture

The culture in Peru is vibrant and rich. From the colorful markets to the traditional dances, every experience was a reminder of the beauty of diversity. I found myself captivated by the stories shared by locals. They spoke of their ancestors, their traditions, and their hopes for the future. It was a beautiful tapestry of life that I felt honored to witness.

Lessons Learned

Every trip teaches us something. For me, Peru was a lesson in gratitude. I learned to appreciate the simple things: a warm meal, a friendly smile, and the beauty of nature. These moments, though small, are what make life truly rich.

A Call to Action

As I reflect on my journey, I encourage you to seek out your own adventures. Explore new places, meet new people, and embrace the unknown. Each experience is an opportunity for growth. Remember, every action you take can leave a positive mark on the world.
