Some Time in Salalah

Laura and I spent a bit of time in Salalah, Oman recently. It’s in the far south of the country, right along the Arabian Sea. What surprised me most was how different it felt from the rest of the region. Instead of dry heat and open desert, Salalah has long stretches of green, coastal fog, and a kind of quiet calm that settles in as soon as you arrive.

Traveling with Laura always reminds me how grounding it is to share new places with someone you care about. We notice different things. She’ll see the small details — patterns in the rocks, how the wind hits the trees — and I tend to focus on the bigger picture. Between the two of us, we end up with a fuller understanding of wherever we are.
Salalah gave us space to slow down. We spent time together in a place that encourages you to pay attention, breathe a little deeper, and step outside the routines that follow you at home.
I’m grateful for the chance to see it, and even more grateful for the time with her.
